Frequently Asked Questions
This is most likely due to incoherency when the SMS is tried to be delivered to your handset by your operator. You can always re-start the sign up process to receive a new SMS.
You can always ask for a new Configuration SMS by login in to City and click on Control panel. There you can send out an SMS again.
Some phones are not possible to configure when it comes to the email client. We present a text during the third registration step if this is the case. You can always set up your handset manually as well.
A lot of handsets differ in the way you set up the account so we will here give you the general information on what to fill in. Check your manual for your handset’s specific steps or contact the support for further assistance.
This is the information that needs to be entered in the set up of the Momail account:
Your username is always yournumber@momail.be and the password is the one you entered when you signed up
Incoming Server:
Incoming Port: 143
Alternatively:
Incoming Server:
Incoming Port: 110
Outgoing Server:
Outgoing port: 2525
Make sure SMTP-Authentication is activated for the Outgoing settings
Also make sure that no SSL is activated for Incoming nor Outgoing.
During the set up of the account you will have to choose the data account (GPRS) that you use to browse the internet with. On Nokia phones this is called Access Point but on other handsets it might be called something else.
Momail uses the built in Email client's inbox which is usually found under Menu > Messages > Email
Make sure that the email client is using the proper GPRS account. Usually named Data Account or Access Point. You can always contact support for further instructions and help.
Make sure the outgoing port that is used for SMTP is set to 2525. Some operators block the general 25 port so we recommend using 2525. SMTP-Authentication is also very important that it is set under the Outgoing settings in your Momail handset account.
Yes you can. If you go to Email Accounts in City you will be able to add your other email account such as Yahoo, Hotmail and others. It must be a POP3-account though. Therefore Exchange and other closed systems will not work unless you or the admin at your office opens it up for POP or (preferrably) do a forwarding from that account to your Momail account.
There is no limit on how many accounts that you want to have collected to your Momail account. There is however not possible to add several versions of the same account as that would only mean duplicate messages in your Momail inbox.
PUSH is a feature that is provided in specific mobile phones. It uses a protocol called IMAP Idle that gives the user an experience very similar to SMS. Whenever a new email message arrives to the Momail inbox a notification will be sent to the mobile and you can decide to download or disregard the message.
PUSH keeps a so called ’heartbeat’ between your handset and our server. This means that some minor data traffic is charged on your card to keep the connection alive. But as the server contacts the mobile phone when a message has arrived and not the other way around, like if you would do a manual send/retrieve, the amount of data transferred is very small. You do however pay for the download of the mail.
As Momail supports the IMAP Idle protocol all that is needed is a handset that supports it as well. Check your manual for information if yours do so. PUSH is most common on the Sony Ericsson phone.
This most likely means that your handset does not support IMAP Idle. IMAP is the regular protocol but not the same thing as the protocol for PUSH (IMAP Idle). Do remember though that the incoming setting in your handset must use IMAP and not POP.
iPhone does not support the PUSH protocol (IMAP Idle). There are however third-party applications that goes around it. You can find such an application here. Apparently it is not guaranteed to work on newer firmware than 1.1.3
Windows Mobile uses the Active sync with their Exchange protocol to handle PUSH. As this is a closed system it means you can not use this function for getting PUSH with Momail. You can however download a program called Flexmail which goes around this and uses the generally accepted PUSH protocol called IMAP Idle. You can buy and download FlexMail here
Click here and follow the instructions. An SMS will be sent out to your handset with your password.
Your username is the same as your Momail address. Ie. 12345@momail.be
